Artist Statement
The "Aftermath Series" is a body of work
devoted to images of destruction,
both natural and man made. I am
interested in a reinterpretation of the
sublime landscape, in all of it's awe, beauty
and intrinsic horror. These
paintings are made as a response to a cult
of fear and manipulation played
greatly in part by the media. Fed to us ad
nauseam, images of destruction serve to
not only titillate but also to propagate a
subversive agenda. In making
theseimages, I choose to focus greatly on
surface and the seductive nature of
painting, all the while exhibiting damage to
great effect. I seek to navigate my own
neuroses and emotive responses to
mediation, fear and control through
seemingly random acts.
